New Roots Creative Studio
Whimsy for your walls
Hi! I’m Laura, the artist behind New Roots Creative Studio, a whimsical little art business based in West Virginia! 🌿✨ Inspired by nature, local farms, beloved pets, and everyday adventures, I create original watercolor artwork and turn my illustrations into prints, stickers, greeting cards, and other happy little keepsakes. My goal is simple: to bring a little joy, color, and whimsy to your walls and everyday life!
My Creative Process
My work is inspired by nature, the places around me, and—very often—the silly things my dogs do. Every piece begins by hand, starting with a sketch before I bring it to life using a combination of archival ink and watercolor. Once an original painting is complete, I carefully scan and digitize it so that some pieces can take on a new life as art prints, greeting cards, stickers, and other small goods. Even when my artwork becomes a printed product, it always begins with an original piece that I’ve drawn and painted by hand. From the first pencil marks to the finished piece, everything I create is made with lots of love, a little whimsy, and usually some four-legged inspiration nearby.

What is your favorite fuel source while creating?
I LOVE an iced brown sugar shaken espresso! ☕️🤎 I went to college in Arizona, and ever since then, iced coffee has been my ride-or-die. Snowing outside? Iced coffee. 100 degrees? Still iced coffee. There is quite literally no weather condition that will convince me otherwise. 😂
What first drew you to creating art, and when did you know it was your calling?
I've always loved being creative. I remember being the kid who doodled all through school because, somehow, drawing was the only way I could remember anything! When I was about 10, I picked up my first point-and-shoot camera, and by high school, I was on the yearbook team. I distinctly remember telling my teacher, "I wish I could just do this for a living. I don't like anything else!" And that's when I learned that graphic design was an actual career. Fast-forward to today, and somehow I've found a way to bring all the things I love together: graphic design, illustration, watercolor, photography, and just about any other creative hobby I can get my hands on. It's part of why I called my business a creative studio—I simply have too many creative interests to fit under one title! Creating brings me an incredible amount of joy. And if something I create can make someone else smile, that makes it even better. 🥹✨
What's the story behind your shop name and brand?
My husband actually helped me come up with the name New Roots Creative Studio! At the time, I was struggling to figure out my next chapter. Around then, we heard a sermon about how the roots of our hearts determine the fruit we produce. My husband noticed how much joy creating art brought me and the shift it made in my heart. He said, “What about New Roots? A new beginning, but also getting back to your creative roots.” And it stuck! The Creative Studio part came from my inability to pick just one creative outlet! I love watercolor, illustration, graphic design, photography, and just about anything that lets me create. New Roots is about embracing new beginnings, reconnecting with the things that bring me joy, and hopefully sharing a little of that joy with others along the way. 🌱✨
